Container H Lines Review

Container H Lines is a $75 million Spanish shipping company based in Barcelona, Spain. The company was established in 1987, following the merger of Naviera Garcia- Miñaur and Compañía Naviera Marasia, two large, Spanish shipping companies. CHL currently offers a range of container-shipping services between Europe, West Africa and a handful of ports in the Far East. Last year, the company shipped approximately 20,000 containers and more than 100,000 tons of general cargo to destinations in the Mediterranean and West Africa.

Shipping Services

Container H coordinates its operations from four offices in Spain and more than 20 agent locations in Europe, Africa and the Far East. The company’s core expertise is in shipping container cargo, rolling cargo and bulk goods. Though most of its revenue comes from full-container load (FCL) shipping services, Container H also accepts less-than-container loads and groupage orders.

Container Inventory

In addition to standard 20-foot and 40-foot steel containers, the company also maintains a large inventory of refrigerated, or reefer containers, for shipping perishable items. The standard dry van containers are designed to carry up to 26 tons of cargo per load. It’s reinforced, refrigerated containers can carry up to 31 tons of perishable goods per load, according to Container H Lines.

Competitive Strategy

CHL is a relatively small company in terms of its overall shipping capacity, but it has tried to differentiate itself from larger companies by offering customers fast transit times, competitive sailing frequencies and aggressive pricing. Over the past few years, the firm has managed to create a profitable niche for itself by offering one of the lowest-cost shipping services along the Mediterranean and West African trade routes. Container H Lines has managed to expand its market presence in recent years by consistently offering new routes and agent locations throughout the region.

Additional Services

In addition to international shipping services, Container H Lines also offers a range of supplementary services, such as logistics and port management. In the past five years, the company has made several substantial investments in business charters and transit services. In recent years, CHL has built or acquired several storage and distribution facilities at multiple ports in the Mediterranean and West Africa.
