The Grimaldi Group is one of the largest integrated shipping and logistics companies in Italy. The firm specializes in transporting automobiles, rolling cargo and container goods to destinations around the world. Grimaldi Lines is a privately owned, family-run business based in Naples. The company maintains offices in 25 countries, and has agents or representatives in hundreds of ports around the globe.
The group comprises of eight shipping companies, including Malta Motorways of the Sea, Finnlines and the Atlantic Container Line (ACL) The company owns a fleet of 100 vessels that it uses to transport cargo to destinations in Europe, the Baltic Sea, Mediterranean ports, West Africa, and North and South America. Though a bulk of Grimaldi’s business comes from transporting cargo, the company also has a robust passenger service business mainly along the Mediterranean and Baltic Sea routes.
The company’s core vehicle transportation fleet includes a mix of Roll-On Roll-Off (RoRo) vessls, multipurpose container and RoRo vessels, pure car and truck carriers and pure car carriers. Grimaldi Lines is a major provider of auto transportation services for several large automobile manufactures, including General Motors, the Ford Motor Company and the Fiat Motor Company. Grimaldi offers door-to-door transport services for most of these car manufacturers.
In recent years, the Grimaldi Group has added a range of logistics services to complement its shipping business. The company has set up about 20 terminals in various ports around the world to handle containers, general cargo and rolling cargo. Most of the company’s terminals are equipped with comprehensive facilities and workshops for pre-delivery inspection and personalization of cargo on behalf of customers. As part of the company’s logistics service, Grimaldi Lines delivers cars and trucks straight from the manufacturer’s factories to depots belonging to dealers and importers.
Grimaldi’s US operations are handed mainly though ACL. The Grimaldi-ACL business is considered to be one of the largest RoRo and container service providers between the United States and Africa, and between the United States and the Mediterranean. The company is also one of the premier carriers of project cargo, heavy equipment and oversized goods along the North Atlantic trade route.
ACL has the distinction of owning five of the world’s largest RoRo vessels and container ships. ACL’s US operations maintains a fleet of more than 2,700 trailers for transporting cars and other cargo from seaports to inland destinations around the country. The Grimaldi Group employs about 400 full-time staff at offices in the United States and Canada.
